Eat Cake!

Over the weekend my oldest child turned 14! He of course refused that I post any pictures of him because...after all, he is 14! (Gosh MOM!)
I haven't actually made a cake in YEARS.... and even though I was playing taxi driver that day running the kids all over, I managed to actually whip one up. Nope this isn't my nicest job, but it was dannnnggg gooood! I made my son very happy because he loves my icing recipe!
So no matter the looks of it, we loved it. And it is always a good thing to: EAT CAKE!

Last night we finally decided to take the kids to see the lights at The Toledo Zoo. Here are a couple of my favorite shots. I am especially in love with these first two!

One of my favorite things to do when my husband drives (which is rare), is to drag shutter and capture street scenes. Its amazing to see what you are going to capture, not all are going to look great, but I love it when they turn out like this!

My life is just so busy and more time is spent on doing business, shooting, and editing, and less time on Facebook and blogging. I do hope to change my Blogging habits in the new year. I like to write, it is another passion of mine, and I like to share my story, not just all business here! So that is one of my New Year's resolutions. I even have my blogging time written in on my new schedule for myself! I am not one for schedules, I am more the fly by the seat of your pants kind of gal, but with a busy family and growing business I've set some guidelines for myself. :) From now until the new year I hope to catch you up on some sessions, stories, and pics that didn't get shared. Here is to a GREAT coming year!

I took this screenshot of my FB insights. Amazing. Paisley Rain reaching 19 countries and 12 different languages! The internet still amazes me. I remember the first days of computers when I was in grade school. We had a teacher who taught us how to type in a very long code just to get a red line to appear on the screen. We thought THAT was cool... I can't wait to see what the future holds!

Miss Markee is 3 1/2 now. :) She is quite a character! Being the youngest of 5, she is my LOUDEST child! But she can also be very shy and LOVES to be glued to Mommy's side! She is also one of the funniest kids I know! Since she has grown her whole life with me doing pictures, she is now finally at the age where she LOVES to be photographed! We did this little session one day while the older kids were at school. It was good bonding time for us. :) She didn't want me to stop!

Jenny & Alicia are the best of friends, and they found out within days of each other, that they would become 1st time moms together! Jenny welcomed Baby Liam into the world on Fri. Jan 14th, and today Alicia is having Baby Macy!! We did some baby bump pictures together, and this week we will be doing newborn pictures! I can't wait to meet them!

I was SO happy to make it into town early enough to get this session in with my cousin! First family portraits together! :) They have breathtaking views where they live, and it was so nice shooting somewhere other than flatland Ohio! The session was quite comical though. There was a HUGE black Lab that wondered into our session. He would NOT leave! While I was shooting from the ground, he would come and try to sit on me. We would shoo him away, only to have the baby looking everywhere the dog was..... so we would call him back! He even landed in a few of the shots... too cute! Too bad this was NOT their dog! :)

My little Miss Markee Rayne is by far a baby anymore, but she will always be my baby as she is my last... I am half jumping for joy for that!! :) Being the wild child 2.5yr old now this is one child that I do NOT get good pictures of! I caught her outside one day and I got this one of her. She loves to dress herself and she just LOVES her rain boots. She has many many pairs and wears them with anything! This next picture is of her and I last year. :)

it takes more time than I would like to get something done. My girls kept me quite occupied today. So little by little I worked on this picture. It took some time looking for textures and deciding on what quote to put on it. I guess sometimes for things to come out right the way you want them... it's worth all the waiting in the world! I could apply that to so many things in my life. ;)

The Littlest Heroes Project

I am so happy to announce I am now participating in The Littlest Heroes Project! This is a wonderful non-profit organization that provides children who have a serious illness with a free portrait session from a photographer in their area.
This is a great way for me to give back, not only because it's a great cause, but because I know first hand what some of these families are going through.
My 3yr old daughter is MY Littlest Hero! Paisley has a rare blood disorder called Evans Syndrome. This involves hemolytic anemia and ITP. Her body attacks her own red blood cells and platelets. You can read more about Paisley at her Caring Bridge site HERE.

Many children like Paisley go through some very tough things while being sick. The many tests performed, the pokes from needles, the endless hours of IV's, many many Dr's appointments, long stays in the hospital, limited activities, living life not knowing what tomorrow brings.... but for these kids they overcome all of that and are STILL KIDS. To see them smile, to know they can be happy amidst all that they have to go through. Yes, they truly are heroes!

Nicole's Maternity Session

I was honored to be chosen to take maternity pictures for Nicole and John. I had such a great time with them and I am so happy Nicole agreed to "show" her belly in a couple of the pics! These are a couple favorite shots. You can really see how happy they are and feel the love and excitement they share waiting for their baby boy! Good luck Nicole and John!!

Having been pregnant 5 times myself, I know how special that moment of time is, especially to the mom who is going through it! I remember with most of my pregnancies I would try to take pictures of myself to document that time of excitement, it's amazing how your body changes and how BIG your belly actually can get! Who would have thought! You just can't know the whole feeling until you go through it, and it's something you will NEVER forget... so why not capture that moment forever too?

I finally dug up some pics of the girls from the day of the wedding. We tried getting my 3 girls and my niece, Ayla, together. It was quite a task! I haven't gotten to go through them all yet, but I picked this one and went with it. My niece was not looking, and my middle daughter Paisley was squinting her eyes.... but I thought Jaida and Markee looked cute together. Jaida was looking dead at me! I love her eyes in this picture and I think I was able to bring them out even more. Here is what I got in the final edit, and I am in love with it!

Ok. I think that was a small lie. I faintly remember trying to start this blogging thing during my fourth pregnancy. Chalk it up to pregnancy brain that I cannot remember where it was or why I stopped! My goal for starting this blog is to share the journey I am about to take in starting my own photography business. Last year while attending school for nursing, I needed to take some filler classes while waiting for clinicals (it has a 2 year waiting list!). But anyways... I have always been creative. I used to like to draw and write poetry. I have always loved taking LOTS of pictures. My pictures were good, but just snapshots of friends and family. So last year I took a college photography course and I also took a course for Photoshop. That semester was the BEST time I ever had in college! It also made me realize what talent I DID have for photography. I bought a DSLR for this course and learning how to use it, how to take pictures, and what photography is all about has opened my eyes to what I should be doing in this life. My teacher was so amazed with my photographs, my family and friends not believing that I TOOK "that" picture.... it has assured me that I am going in the right direction with this.

After the semester ended, I wanted to learn MORE. I have been self-teaching everything I can get my hands on. I am now working on building my portfolio and will be trying to get my website up and running in the near future. My time is often very limited with raising 5 children and working part-time, but I am dedicated and stay up into the wee hours of the morning just to try and get a little bit closer to my dream!!

About the name. Paisley Rain Photography. My 4th child is named Paisley Marie. My 5th child is named Markee Rayne. So I took one name from each. Paisley Rain. But I changed the Rayne to RAIN of course... easier to spell in a business! I kind of wish I would have given Paisley that middle name since I like the sound of it. Kind of ironic that a raindrop is also the same shape of paisley, huh?

This is now the end of my first "blog". Yay, I did it!
